What I offerPsychoanalytic/ Psychodynamic/Dynamic psychotherapy
This therapy involves looking at the underlying sources of your current emotional distress embedded in memory and personality. Sometimes these sources are unconscious and hard to explore by yourself.
Dynamic Psychotherapy draws on psychoanalytic theories of the development of emotions, fantasies and experiences. Many emotional problems stem from troubled and difficult relationships, especially those in the formative years during childhood and adolescence.
Exploring conflicts and troubled aspects of life provides an opportunity to make changes.
Thinking about yourself and your life, with a therapist, can bring an increased awareness so that problems can be faced and accepted.
Psychotherapy takes time and needs commitment as it can be difficult to talk about yourself at first.
Who benefits from psychoanalytic/psychodynamic/dynamic psychotherapy
Dynamic psychotherapy is an appropriate form of therapy for people suffering longstanding emotional problems which stem from difficult and/or traumatic circumstances.
Sometimes the traumatic pattern can go on being repeated until worked through in therapy.
Often there is a combination of a number of problems, such as:
- Inability to feel, or express feelings
- Difficulties with anger
- Relationship difficulties
- Social isolation
- Sexual difficulties
- Low self esteem
- Identity difficulties
- Eating disorders
- Memories of abuse
- Unresolved difficulties with loss or bereavement
When you begin working on your difficulties you may feel worse before you feel better. It may be because you are talking about things which are painful to you and this can be distressing. It may be because talking to your therapist causes you anxiety and discomfort as you work through this.
I can think with you about this, so that you can make sense of your feelings as they arise.
I provide consultation, weekly individual brief and long term therapy. I offer group psychotherapy. Consultation can be an opportunity to decide which type of therapy might suit you best.
Therapy is provided in a safe and private environment.
